How to calculate CBM for China cargo

Top Sea C&A Limited

Cubic metres decide most sea-freight bills from Yiwu and Guangzhou. Here is the sum, and when weight takes over.

CBM means cubic metres. For a carton measured in centimetres:

Length × width × height ÷ 1,000,000 × quantity.

A carton of 50 × 40 × 30 cm is 0.06 CBM. Ten of them are 0.6 CBM.

Sea freight from China often bills the higher of measured CBM and weight converted at about 1,000 kg per CBM. A dense machine can cost more than its box size suggests. Air freight uses chargeable kilograms instead: the higher of actual weight and volume divided by 6,000 when the tape is in centimetres.

Measure the outer carton, not the product. Include every package. Then run the numbers in the CBM calculator and ask TopSea for an official quotation before you pay the supplier.
